District Rowing Regatta

15 June 2018

Saturday 10th June 2018 saw the Unit head to Tewkesbury Sailing Club for the annual Severn District Combined Regatta. TS Gloucester entered and Open Boys team aged 12-18 and a Junior Boys team aged 12-15.

The Junior boys came runners-up and the Open Boys coming 3rd.

Boating  Season '18

Boating Season '18

Well as the nights now turn lighter the Boating Season is full sail ahead. 

Our Cadets are out every Parade Night rowing and working towards either Competent Crew which is the basic qualification they can achieve in rowing, Supervised Coxswain where they learn to take charge of the boat bringing it alongside and completing manoeuvres or RYA Level 1 Powerboat Displacement.

BCU Level 1 Paddlesports Coach

Congratulations to APO (SCC) Aiden Jayne who has successfully passed to his BCU Level 1 Paddlesport Coach award. This will allow us to offer Kayaking and Canoeing in the Unit.

MP Visit

MP Visit

On the 3rd May Councillor Richard Graham, MP for Gloucester, visited our Cadets as they were out boating. This gave Councillor Graham the opportunity to speak to the Cadets and see them out rowing and developing their waterborne skills. We also were lucky enough to our Unit President Councillor Pam Tracey also attend.

 

21 Cadets Pass their Water Safety Test

10 April 2018

On the 10th April 2018, 21 Cadets took to GL1's Swimming Pool to complete the annual swimming test ahead of our boating season. 

The Water Safety Test involves cadets having to get into the deep end of the pool whilst wearing boating clothes and a buoyancy aid, they then have to swim 25 Metres then tread water for 1 minute and then climb.

Needless to say, they all passed.
