Evesham Sea Cadets Objectives

As a uniformed youth organisation, we do not recruit young people for military service and we are not a pre-service organisation, however children that attend find it easier to integrate and succeed should they go on to join the military as a career.

We have the following simple objectives for our cadets:

  • Fun and Adventure for all young people.
  • Sports and healthy living.
  • Vocational training and education.
  • To teach our young people the core values of Honesty, Discipline, Commitment, Integrity, Loyalty & Respect

The Cadets

The cadets - the most important element of every successful unit. Here at Team Evesham we take pride in offering our services to 85 youngsters, making us one of the largest units in the country.

We try to make every aspect of our activities fun and adventurous. It is important for young people to be able to have ago at new activities, gaining new skills and qualifications builds self confidence and maturity, and making new friends.

We accept Junior Cadets from the age of ten years and they progress up to fully enrolled Sea Cadets at 12 years old, and go through to 18, where they can gain life changing qualifications like CVQO Awards & Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

New recruits : Between 10 and 12 years old, join the Junior Section.
From 12 years and upwards, they join as New Entry Cadets and enrol with the senior cadets after a probationary period.

As a Unit we will accept any child that applies, providing we have the space. Because we are a Sea Cadet Unit we have high expectations of behaviour and discipline, we find children like knowing where the boundaries are and thrive in an environment that is much more structured than school. For those children that have lost the support of a family, we can offer an alternative extended family and lots of friends. Cadets can live anywhere, not just Evesham. Because we are out between Honeybourne and South Littleton you have to have understanding parents that can drive you to the Unit two evenings a week.

We offer hands on training and sport, you do not have to able to read and write or be doing well at school. The things we teach include basic life skills, such as getting on in a group, how to cook, how to concentrate, how to solve lifes puzzles and problems like cleaning shoes properly, how to iron a shirt and dress smartly.

Uniform and most equipment, is provided by the Unit, although parents must pay a returnable unifrom deposit.
