Who We Are

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters.

The tradition of community - based Sea Cadet Units continues today with 400 across the UK each with charitable status enabling them to raise funds to meet their running costs. All Units are members of the Sea Cadet Corps and are governed by the national charity MSSC - the Marine Society & Sea Cadets.

We work partnership with the Royal Navy under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and receive corporate support from commercial shipping companies and the Maritime sector. Our core purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets.

Our Unit

Provides a great facilitie which can accomodate many cadets and staff memebers and be used for all types of training. We have all the latest equipment to help with training the cadets and providing a great learning experience for them. Like some other units we allow others to use our unit for training at weekends, as well as completing our own unit training weekends. You will always find the unit being used by someone for something, so the cadets can never say they get bored!

As well as helping the youth of today and providing them with the knowledge and life skills to go out into the world and be the best that they can be. We also help out a local school by allowing them to use our facilities within the unit, so not only do our cadets benefit but other youngsters too!

So, if you're out to enjoy life as much as possible, this is the place for you! Fun, friendship, adventure and learning new skills is what we're about - based on waterborne activities, but with lots of other exciting things to learn and do on land as well.
