We are one of 11 Sea Cadet units based in Essex and are part of the Eastern District of London Area Sea Cadets. Our cadets take part in competitions in football, shooting, athletics, adventurous expeditions (advex), seamanship, kayaking, sailing and rowing regattas, swimming, drill and piping.
They also go to sea in the Sea Cadets offshore fleet which includes a square rigged sailing ship TS Royalist, 2 Power Vessels TS John Jerwood and TS Jack Petchey as well as smaller yachts and will spend a week on board learning how to crew the vessels as they navigate the UK coast with the occasional visit to a foreign port. Our cadets also attend offshore weekend courses at TS Rebel the Sea Training school based in Walton on the Naze and one of our cadets is currently a member of their yacht racing squad. Former cadets have also gone on to careers in the Merchant Navy and the UK Sailing Academy crewing yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Cadets can also take courses in Drill, Communications, Cook Steward, Marine Engineering, First Aid, Physical Training and Seamanship. There are also opportunities to gain qualifications in Adventure Training, Diving, Meteorology, Piping, Music, Shooting and various boating activities.
In addition to this there are unit, district and area summer camps that cadets can attend as well as the opportunity to go on international exchanges. Cadets will also from time to time be able to attend courses at Royal Navy shore establishments such as HMS Raleigh, HMS Excellent and Brittania Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
We also provide the opportunity for cadets to gain BTEC Level 2 qualifications in Public Services, Music and Marine Engineering, which are the equivalent of four GCSE's.
