Relocation

Relocation

The time has come for us to bid farewell to the old ship T.S Phoebe in Wesley Close with Monday 30th our last parade night.

Until we can move into our new purpose built Headquarter in Gloucester Road, Boscombe, we have been graciously given the use of Townsend Community Centre for the next three weeks. With this in mind we will only be parading on Friday nights of those three weeks with all parade times remaining as usual.

Please follow the links for a location map .

Townsend Community Centre, Jewell Road, Townsend, Bournemouth, BH8 0LT.

Formed in 1939, Bournemouth Sea Cadets has been parading in the current building for the last 25 years. Over the years the unit has grown to include a Sea Cadet Juniors and Royal Marines Cadets Detachment.

The building has served the unit well and we hope her faithful traditions are continued in our new Training Ship Headquarters.

We would like to thank all of the committee of Townsend Community Centre for coming to our aid in our transition period without a home.

Bournemouth cadets march for Trafalgar Day

Bournemouth cadets march for Trafalgar Day

Sea Cadets aged between 12 and 18 marched onto Trafalgar Square, London, on the 23rd October 2011 to celebrate the 206th national Trafalgar Day.

This year Royal Marines Cadets from both Zulu and Alpha Company formed the Armed Guard which is the first time that the Royal Marines Cadets have had the honour.

A selection weekend was held two weeks before the parade to find the best cadets for the Guard with approximately 11 members of Zulu company and other cadets from Alpha Company not making the cut.

The Thursday before the Trafalgar Day parade over 500 Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets met at Longmoor Army camp, Liss, for an intensive training weekend with another 9 nominees being dropped from the Guard with one of them from Bournemouth Detachment. The Guard then practiced all day Friday and Saturday ready for Sunday’s parade.

Both Cadet Lance Corporal Greenfield and Marine Cadet 2nd Class Reid passed the selection process with LCpl Greenfield in the Guard and MC2 Reid as a position flag carrier.

On the Trafalgar parade the Guard was inspected by Royal Marines, Major General Buster Howes OBE and Captain Mark Windsor RN, Captain Sea Cadet Corps followed by Mile march up the Mall from Trafalgar Square to Wellington barracks for refreshments after the parade.

This is the first time cadets from Bournemouth Detachment have been part of a Trafalgar Day parade and was an exceptional honour for those cadets that both passed the selection process and attended the national parade.

We've gone Pro!!

We've gone Pro!!

Thats right, we've gone Pro but Photbucket Pro that is.

We have now upgraded to Photobucket Pro meaning we have more space to store those cracking pictures of the cadets and the unit.

Dont forget we want your pictures so if you have some great pics taken by Mum, Dad, you or good old Aunty Bess we want them. Just put them on a CD or memory stick and hand to Colour Sergeant Foley who will save them and return them back to you asap.

Check out the photo albums at http://s1199.photobucket.com/albums/aa462/bournemouthseacadets/

Remembrance Day Parade

Remembrance Day Parade

A big well done goes to all the cadets and staff who attended this year’s Remembrance Parade in Bournemouth.

Once the unit was formed up in the Winter Gardens car park, everyone was marched down to meet the rest of the remembrance parade at Exeter Road car park. After some preparation time the order was given, the band struck up and everyone prepared to give it their best and Bournemouth Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets were no exception.
With the units Colour (Banner) at the head of the unit with its armed guard, all the cadets and adults showed the public the high standard that they were all trained to.

The service was held at the Cenotaph in Bournemouth’s Upper Gardens and all present braved the wind and rain which got worse as the time went on. When the serviced had finished all the cadets and adults marched back from the Cenotaph and passed the Mayor before finishing back at the Exeter Road car park. Once the parade was dismissed all of Bournemouth Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets fell back in and were marched back to the Upper Gardens but this time to the memorial of HMS Phoebe to which our unit gains its name T.S (Training Ship) Phoebe.

Wreaths were laid and respects were paid to all the lost crew of HMS Phoebe and a small service was held before all were dismissed to return back to the unit.

Back at the unit hot soup was laid on for all the cold and hungry prior to the start of this year’s presentations.
