Bournemouth Sea Cadets is one of 400 Sea Cadet Units nationwide. We offer training to young people between the ages of 10-18, enabling personal development and valuable life skills.
At any time there are between 50 to 100 cadets on strength, supported by 15 adult instructors. Young people aged 10 and 11 join the Junior Sea Cadet section, following their own unique training plan. At age 12, cadets join the senior section and become fully involved in Unit life. Young men aged 13 and above may join the Royal Marines Cadet Detachment (RMCD). Sorry ladies, the RMCD is presently only open to the chaps.
The Sea Cadet Corps wouldn't run without Adult Instructors. These dedicated people are fully qualified to offer training in many different disciplines, from Seamanship to Marine Engineering, Communications to Expedition Training. For all activities, instructors are qualified by the relevant governing body to teach.
An overview of our instructors is below.
The Unit is supported after by a Unit Management Committee. The Chairman is always looking for enthusiastic supporters who are willing to help raise the funds necessary to keep our cadets afloat.
T.S Phoebe
In line with the Royal Naval tradition, our unit headquarters, as a Land Based Training Establishment, is called a Training Ship and our unit is T.S Phoebe after HMS Phoebe.

The name HMS Phoebe has been assigned to several ships in the Royal Navy covering the period 1779 - 1991. The last of these was F42, a Leander Class Frigate which was commisioned in 1966 and was adopted by the town of Bournemouth in 1988. Her ships bell hangs in the Town Hall’s Phoebe Room together with a large wooden plaque depicting the history of the towns association with HMS Phoebe.
