Visit to RFA Argus

Visit to RFA Argus

On Saturday 7th April nine cadets and three members of staff travelled to Falmouth to spend the day on board RFA Argus, the unit's affiliated ship.  RFA Argus plays an important role in the Royal Navy, serving as a primary casualty reception facility (floating A&E).  The cadets enjoyed an extensive tour of the ship and took part in seamanship and communication activities, basic skills carried out by the personnel serving on board.  Many thanks to the staff on board, in particular First Officer Wingrove.

Six cadets, four seniors and two juniors from Bideford and District Sea Cadets formed a 'surprise' guard at The Royal Hotel for the 1st Lieutenant, Petty Officer (SCC) Philip Van Kuffeler and his wife Donna following their wedding at Welcombe.  The cadets, who held boat oars decorated with red, white and blue ribbons, stood in the hotel lobby creating an impressive greeting for the newly weds and subsequent guests who all wished to walk through.  Many congratulations to Philip and Donna and best wishes for the future.

Royal Navy visits the unit

On Tuesday 7th February a representative from the Royal Navy visited the unit and gave an informative presentation about the Royal Navy and opportunities open to those wishing to join.  He explained about what life is like being part of the ships company and gave a comprehensive description of each aspect of the service.  The cadets were enthusiastic, and asked many questions which were answered honestly and with equal enthusiasm.  Both cadets and staff enjoyed the evening.
