Who We Are

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters.

The tradition of community - based Sea Cadet Units continues today with 400 across the UK each with charitable status enabling them to raise funds to meet their running costs. All Units are members of the Sea Cadet Corps and are governed by the national charity MSSC - the Marine Society & Sea Cadets.

We work partnership with the Royal Navy under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and receive corporate support from commercial shipping companies and the Maritime sector. Our core purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets.

City of Bath Sea Cadets is a thriving and active Unit, situated on the River Avon in the heart of Bath. We are one of the oldest Sea Cadet Units in the Sea Cadet Corps and are exceptionally proud of our history.

Our location on the River Avon means we are lucky enough to be able to spend most of the summer (and some of the winter) boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Whenever we're not busy on the water we're learning useful skills, making friends and generally having a laugh!

If while you browse you find yourself thinking "I want some of that" then just email us at the address below, and we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

A note on our history as a unit:
16th September 1942
We had our first parade at Oldfield Youth Centre under the Command of Mr E D G Ricketts and Chaired by Dr A S Wood. In our first month we had enrolled 66 cadets.

Who We Are

Both our Junior and Senior sections are currently accepting recruits, catering for children from the ages of 10 to 18 from all over BANES. Why not take a look at the site and see what sort of things we get up to?

And for those of you over 18, don't despair! We are always on the lookout for new members of staff and committee members to join the crew. If you’re interested and think you have something to offer please get in touch!
