Our thanks go to C/Sgt(SCC)D Knowles for training the cadets throughout the year.

NEW – Swimming at RAF HALTON

NEW – Swimming at RAF HALTON

On Saturday 28th January 2012 a group of cadets had the opportunity to make use of the swimming facilities at RAF Halton. This was the first time in many years that the unit has had access to this pool and we are pleased to confirm arrangements are in place to use the pool on the last Saturday of each month from 4-6pm for a minimal cost per person throughout the remainder of the year. This will enable us to take the cadets through the swimming and safety tests required for the various boating activities in the summer months as well as having a bit of fun to boot!

Many thanks to RAF Halton for allowing use of the pool.

Southern Area Conference November 2012

Southern Area Conference November 2012

The unit was represented by Lt (SCC) J Pike RNR (Commanding Officer), PO (SCC) G Hamilton (1st LT) and Lt (SCC) P Conway RMR (Detachment Commander). During this event Aylesbury Royal Marine Cadets was awarded ‘Southern Area’s Most Improved Marine Detachment’ award. This was a prestigious moment in the unit history and our congratulations go to the staff and cadets of T.S Broadsword who form the Royal Marine Cadet Detachment.

Major (SCC) G Guppy RMR said…

"This Detachment has, for some years, proved fairly average and at times struggled to maintain Cadet numbers. Over the last two or three years there seems to have been a modest improvement, but in 2011 there has been a profound change in their abilities and fortunes. The Detachment Commander has had a clear and wide ranging development programme resulting in the recruitment of three uniformed instructors. This in turn has led to far greater cadet participation in Unit, District and Area activities, improved recruiting and retention, effectively doubling numbers to some 13 Cadets, including females.

Last year a weak Detachment was unable to achieve the appropriate standards at Field Assessment, but in 2011 Aylesbury more than held their own. Throughout this year staff and cadets have supported all aspects of Zulu Company training including Trafalgar Day rehearsals, even though new staff were unlikely to be selected for the event. They are "team players" in every sense of the word.

The development plans have come to fruition in 2011 ensuring Aylesbury RMCD are an integral and vibrant part of TS Broadsword, with resilience for the long term. Their improvement is best summed up by the recent advancement of not one but two cadets to the rank of Cadet Sergeant.

Aylesbury RMCD are worthy contenders for this prestigious award. "

Aylesbury Sea & Marine Cadets Trafalgar Night Dinner October 2011

Aylesbury Sea & Marine Cadets Trafalgar Night Dinner October 2011

On Friday 21st October 2011 Aylesbury Sea Cadet and Royal Marine Cadet Unit hosted its first "Trafalgar Night Dinner" for over 20 years.

This event was held at Hardings Restaurant and was attended by 52 guests, hosted by the 1st Lieutenant of the Unit, PO(SCC) G Hamilton. We were honoured to welcome our guest of honour Cdr S Johns RN and her husband Cdr S Krosnar Clarke RN who are based at RAF Halton.

Ten of our cadets attended the arrival ceremony of our Honored Guests by greeting our guests and Piping the Side (an old Naval tradition) as the Commanders entered the restaurant.

This was a great opportunity to get some old friends of the unit to socialise. These included two former Commanding Officers of the unit, one officer who started their cadet life at Aylesbury, who now commands Northampton Sea and Royal Marine Cadets and ex-Cadets one of whom is currently serving in the Royal Air Force.

Speeches were delivered by Commander Johns RN and PO(SCC) G Hamilton before the mess games started in the bar! During this time a raffle was also drawn and some great prizes won. All of the prizes were donated by various companies and individuals. A big Thank You to the P&SA for organizing this,

Feedback was given by Cdr Johns RN:-

"Thank you for inviting me and Steve as Guests of Honour at your dinner on Friday. We enjoyed the evening very much and you made us feel very special. It was inspiring to meet some of your staff and supporters and witness the commitment and enthusiasm for the Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets in Aylesbury, which I’m sure, will continue to go from strength to strength. Very many congratulations to all the team who pulled the event together – which captured all the spirit of traditional Trafalgar Night – the history, remembrance, camaraderie and fun."

The unit very much hopes we can now make Trafalgar Night Dinner an annual event. A big Thank You goes to all who attended and to the P&SA and key members of staff for organizing this very successful event.

On the evening of Thursday 20th October 2011 a group of cadets were invited to the Annual Trafalgar Night Dinner at RAF Halton. They piped on board Vice Admiral C Style RN who was the Guest of honour for the evening.

Not only was this a great honour to be asked to attend, there was also an opportunity for our cadets to be given a brief tour of Halton House which was etched with stature and history.

The cadets also had the chance to greet serving Royal Navy and Royal Air Force Officers into the mess. This was a great occasion and one which received gratitude from the hosts at Royal Air Force Halton.

Cdr Johns RN said: "Everyone was very impressed of how smart and confident the cadets were – it was really very special to have you there and I am glad that the team enjoyed the visit"

We hope more can be done to create a great relationship with our neighbors at RAF Halton.

Royal Marine Cadet Annual Field Assessment August 2011

Royal Marine Cadet Annual Field Assessment August 2011

On Friday the 26th August 2011, 22 detachments of Southern Area Zulu Company Royal Marine Cadets converged on Crowborough Army Training Camp, under the Command of Major (SCC) Guppy RMR and Major (SCC) Crawley RMR.

The purpose was to conduct our Annual Field Assessment at Pippingford Park Military Training Area. Each detachment is assessed on its ability to write and present a set of orders for a patrol, carry out the patrol and complete a Section Battle Drill. This is a compulsory assessment to ensure that the detachment staff is training their cadets in accordance with training regulations.

The assessments were carried out by Sea Cadet Headquarters staff: Staff Royal Marines Officer (SRMO) Colour Sergeant Mark Allen Royal Marine; Royal Marine Cadet Staff Officer (RMCSO) Major (SCC) Dave Poke Royal Marines Reserve and Royal Marine Cadet Training Officer (RMCTO) /Royal Marine Cadets Corps Regimental Sergeant Major (RMCC RSM)– Warrant Officer 1st Class (WO1) Glynn Robinson Royal Marines Reserve.

Using markers, MC2 Pearce showed the detachment how Cpl Ransley had said the patrol should to be conducted.

Moving out in arrowhead formation the cadets patrolled in their area of operation.

They reacted to enemy fire and took cover using natural foliage and the lay of the land to protect them.

Major Poke debriefs Zulu Company on their scores. Only one detachment achieved Very Good Superior.

Aylesbury scored 41 points which puts them in the ‘Good’ category.

Last year Aylesbury got a satisfactory and C/Sgt Allen said "I commend you and your staff’s efforts as I understand your training constraints in Aylesbury. Had you have brought two more cadets and had they all been trained on the L98 A2 Cadet Weapon System the detachment would have achieved a ‘very good’ and only been a couple of points short of a ‘Very Good Superior’."

Lt (SCC) Conway RMR commented "This is my second year as Detachment Commander, the detachment has doubled in size and we have 4 new Royal Marine Cadet Instructors. With this, the level and standard of training has been maintained - the results speak for themselves... I would sincerely like to thank the staff and cadets of Aylesbury Royal Marine Cadet Detachment for their professionalism, commitment and dedication. "
