Sea Cadets has launched a £7.5 million fundraising campaign for a new twin masted brig to help inspire the next generation of sailors.

Launched by TV presenter and historian, Dan Snow, himself an ex Sea Cadet, the chairty hopes the new ship will enable even more cadets to get the chance to go to sea.

The charity's current sailing Brig TS ROYALIST is 39 years old and offers young people adventure training in a structured environment at sea. The ship embodies the charities commitment and passion to champion Britain’s maritime future by inspiring young people. Built in 1971, ROYALIST has given 30,000 young people the unique chance to experience life at sea.

Josh Syrett, 17, and a Sea Cadet since 2005, said of his time on TS ROYALIST;

“Sailing on Royalist is an incredible experience open to all Sea Cadets, it’s what we are all about and teaches you team work, perseverance and determination, it is an exhilarating experience and an amazing challenge. A new training ship will mean even more young people can benefit from this incredible experience.”
