District Officer Lt Cdr Joseph Utting RNR

The Unit President

We recieve good support from our long standing President - Cllr John Smith.
As an ex-cadet of many years ago, he appreciate`s what the youth of today stand to gain and also understands the amount of work that the adult volunteers put in to help the community. Our profile in the local community is most important and we feel proud to have John as our President.

The Commanding Officer & Unit Staff

The Training and discipline required to run a large organisation such as our`s, takes a huge amount of effort and commitment, we welcome any offers of assistance and we have no minimum committment, all you need is a big smile and a few spare hours. It is not essential to like teenagers, we can always find you a role maintaining buildings, gardening or helping with the administration, during the day.

Getting involved, to help your self and develop new skills and experience.

It is important to remember that you do not need any experience in the navy or sea cadets to come along and help us. We have positions for people who want to turn up and help in civilian clothes, however we can get you into uniform if you would like to take things a little bit further.

The whole unit is totally dependent upon volunteers of all ages and experience, who work hard as a team to deliver safe, fun activities. We can offer adults nationally recognised training, experience and qualifications in dinghy sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and power boating. You can also become an instructor for skills such as marine engineering, seamanship and cooking.

The Chairman & Unit Management Team.

The Unit Management Team (UMT) are the Trustees for the Unit, Evesham Sea Cadets is an independent charity. The UMT manage the financial and organisational issues related to providing & maintaining facilities.
Evesham Sea Cadets receives no direct funding from the Ministry of Defence, all the staff are unpaid volunteers, and we have to raise all the money required to run the unit.

We particularly need help from people with experience of fundraising, health and safety and financial issues. Committee meetings are monthly, usually the third Wednesday in the month, please confirm the date and time before coming along, new members are always welcome.

Petty Officer Ian Bostock joined the Sea Cadets and Evesham Unit, originally as the minibus driver back in August 1994. He has seen both of his children progress through the organisation, and now enjoys giving other youngsters of the area the same opportunities that we offered to his own children. Ian specialises in Power Boating, Seamanship and Navigation, and works as Head of Security at Ashchurch Army Depot. Ian is happily married with two children and lives in the Evesham area.

Unit Assistant Richard Gaffney joined the Sea Cadets and Evesham unit back in December 2008, and is our resident catering instructor. As well as teaching our young people at unit level Richard is also the Warwickshire District Co-ordinator and the Assistant Area Staff Officer Cook Stewards for the South West Area, where he instructs cadets from Penzance to Telford. Richard lives in the sleepy village of Honeybourne with his wife Elizabeth and runs his own successful catering firm.
