Ashore in Trinidad - Engineer Cadet; BP Shipping

29 October 2006

Trinidad has survived what nature could throw at her. Now is the turn of the crew of the British Trader.

Equipped with a camera and some cash, we boarded the launch “Pickle”, which was our ticket to freedom and salvation (well….for the day anyway).

Our first stop was to be Point Fortin via customs, which happily posted a sign 'Back in two hours', and it failed to dampen our spirits.

After the essential shopping (phones, clothes and DVDs) we headed further inland to seek out the delights of Gulf City and San Fernando.

The taxi ride into gulf city was something else. For 6TT$ per head (£0.60) it was a rollercoaster ride that Alton Towers couldn’t beat, and an hour long.

Once in Gulf City, the shopping done, and a wander round the sights of the area, it was time to settle down for some local cuisine (TGI Friday’s).

With our bellies full and our thirst quenched, we headed for San Fernando, Trinidad’s second city.

We took in the sights and our mystery hairdo. With the touristy bit out of the way, and time running out, we headed back to Point Fortin (via supermarket for some doughnuts and biscuits for the poor souls left onboard), and onto our final stop.

Pepe’s Café couldn’t have been a better last stop for a quiet beer, and watch the last of this grand day out.

Tomorrow’s another working day...
